Who it is for
Founders, business owners and liberal professionals from outside the EU who want to create, take over or run an activity in France. Founders with larger projects may qualify for the multi-year Talent Passport for business creators instead.
The main requirements
- A viable, real project. The prefecture assesses whether the business is serious and economically viable.
- Income of at least the SMIC. Your activity must be able to pay you at least the full-time minimum wage. For an existing business, you show the income it already pays you.
- Authorisation to practise if your profession is regulated.
- Supporting documents, such as your business plan and, for an existing activity, tax records.
How long it takes
From abroad you apply for a long-stay visa through France-Visas, then the prefecture handles your residence card in France. Timelines vary by prefecture. The first card is valid for 1 year, and viability and income are checked again when you renew.
How Ascend helps
We write the business plan and income forecast that show the prefecture a viable activity paying at least the SMIC, check whether the Talent Passport is a better fit and build your file. Legal advice is handled by an independent lawyer, billed directly by the lawyer.
Questions people ask
