How the student permit works
- Your university applies. Only a recognised university or university of applied sciences can apply for your residence permit, on your behalf.
- Admission and enrolment in a full-time, accredited programme.
- Enough money for your studies and living costs.
- Study progress: you must obtain at least 50% of the credits for each study year.
The permit is valid for your study duration plus 3 months, up to 5 years.
Working while you study
With a work permit arranged by your employer, you can work up to 16 hours a week, or full-time in June, July and August. Self-employed work is allowed if you register with the KVK and keep meeting the study conditions.
After you graduate
You can apply for an orientation year to look for work, move to a highly skilled migrant permit with a lower salary requirement, or start a business through the start-up route.
How Ascend helps
We shortlist programmes that fit your grades and budget, prepare your applications and motivation letters, guide you through the visa steps with your university and get you ready for departure. We also help with studies in the UK, Spain, Portugal, Malta, Finland, Lithuania and Canada.
